Requires Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade version 1.20. Incompatible with all other versions
DoWEX was initially created by nemarsde and Rossi720 as a package of textures for the new units in DoWXP 4.02 whose texture sets were incomplete or over-sized. What started as performance optimisation soon evolved into bug fixing, and then a proof of concept demo for the DoWXP team working on the version 4.05 update.
After the release of the version 4.05 update, the DoWXP team announced a paradigm shift for the mod, completely overhauling the gameplay. nemarsde and Rossi720 decided to develop their own mod based on the last full stable release of DoWXP (version 4.02) and DoWEX was born.
As such, whilst the mod has some unique content created by nemarsde and Rossi720 most, if not all credit must go to the modders listed below. Special thanks to Corsix, IBBoard and Mudflaps for providing the tools that made the mod possible.
Disclaimer: Amongst the DoWEX team there are players of all races, except Necrons. Due to this lack of expertise Necrons have remained unchanged from DoWXP 4.02 (and are still the second most formidable opponent after Tau).
Installation
- Copy and paste contents of the 7z archive into your "Dawn of War - Dark Crusade" folder.
- The file "DowEX.module" should now be in your "Dawn of War - Dark Crusade" folder, where there should also now be a "DowEX" folder.
- Dawn of War - Exemplar can now be activated from the Dawn of War - Dark Crusade main menu in the Game Manager.

- Health bars on certain units were not displaying. Fixed where found
- Many incorrect tooltips in all races. Fixed where found
- Hot key system was broken. Fixed for Chaos, Eldar, IG, SM and Tau. Necrons are not yet fixed
- Chaos Ranged Skill research was badly implemented. Fixed. Research now increases min/max damage rather than armour piercing
- Chaos Champion Chainsword and Bolt Pistol were broken. Fixed. Now do damage inline with other Chaos units
- Chaos Speed Fiend ability was broken and did not work. Fixed
- Chaos Raptor Bolt Pistol was broken. Fixed. Now does damage
- Chaos Assault Cannon range was 35. Fixed. Now 30, same as other Assault Cannons
- Chaos Commander researches were not applying to all hero units. Fixed. Now apply to all heroes, including Obliterators and Daemon Prince
- Chaos Lord upgrade from Power Sword to Manreaper was broken. Stats were inverted making it a downgrade. Fixed
- Eldar LP2 twin-linked Brightlances had 100% accuracy. Fixed
- Eldar Fire Prism Prism Cannon had 100% accuracy. Fixed
- Eldar Prism Cannon upgrade from Annihilate the Enemy was broken. Did not apply at all. Fixed
- Eldar Enhanced Optics research did not apply to all ranged weapons. Fixed
- IG Ogryn squad size increase from HQ upgrades was stacking with multiple HQs. Fixed. Guardsmen squad size still benefits
- IG unentrenched HWT lasgun and knife were broken. Fixed. Use same weapons as Guardsmen squad
- IG Battle Armour research added 150 health to Guardsmen Sergeant, should apply 1.25 multiple. Fixed
- SM Bionics research was not applying to Veteran Sergeants. Fixed
- SM Target Finder research was not applying to Scout Flamers, Plasma Guns or certain Devastator heavy weapons. Fixed
- SM Power Sword research modifier was applying to Crozius Arcanum. Fixed
- SM Power Fist research modifier was applying to Force Commander's Power Sword. Fixed
- SM Commander Veteran and Commander Hero researches were not applying to all hero units. Fixed
- SM Librarian special attacks were set to 20 sec intervals, should be 4. Fixed
- Ork Stormboy and Stormboy Nob Sluggas were broken. Fixed. Now do damage inline with other Ork units
- Ork Tankbusta Stikkbomb accuracy was <50% with long setup. Broken, now fixed. Accuracy is inline with other melee weapons
- Ork Big Shooty Boss Weapons research downgraded Big Mek and Warboss to Mega Blastas. Fixed. Mega Blasta reload times decreased inline with parent weapons

Imperial Guard
- Command Squad
- Re-implemented by nemarsde. Led by an Imperial General based on Colonel Brom. Fully team-colourable
- Built in Mars Pattern Command
- Can be deep-striked from Mars Pattern Command like Kasrkins
- Has a max of 4 members, including:
- Field Medic(s)
- Kasrkin Bodyguard(s)
- Priest(s)
- Psyker(s)
- All Command Squad members benefit from same researches as equivalent squad leaders
- Uncommon Valour also applies to Imperial General
- Imperial Captain renamed Governor-Militant to prevent confusion with Imperial General
- Commissar Execute
- Now applies to all ranged and melee weapons in a Guardsmen or Kasrkin squad, except attached commanders and sergeants
- Psyker
- Gains new Conceal ability, reducing ranged damage received by squad
- Ogryns
- Rippergun
- Range reduced to 15 from 25
- Now has a pie-shaped area effect that can hit many units in one shot
- Field Medic
- Benefits from Battle Armour research
- Death Before Dishonour and Will of the Emperor
- Now apply to HWTs and Guardsmen Sergeants
Eldar
- Enhanced and Superior Optics
- Enhanced Optics now increases ranged weapon accuracy not damage
- Superior Optics now increases ranged and melee damage
- Falcon Grav Tank
- CTC's Falcon model implemented by Rossi720. Fully team-colourable
- All stats increased to make Falcons a high tier vehicle like Fire Prisms
- Falcon now only has 1 squad slot, much like a SM Razorback
- Falcons require the Grav Tank Aspect Stone Add-on like Fire Prisms
- Shares hard cap of 3 with Fire Prisms
- Wave Serpent Transport
- CTC's Wave Serpent model implemented by Rossi720. Fully team-colourable
- Replaces Falcons in the Eldar tech tree
- Fire Prism
- Now requires the Grav Tank Aspect Stone Add-on
- Prism Cannon
- Chances of stun reduced, but stun duration doubled
- Accuracy on the move penalty reduced to 20% of max
- Shuriken Catapult
- Uses same hull-mounted Shuriken Catapult as Wave Serpent
- Shares hard cap of 3 with Falcon Grav Tanks

Chaos Space Marines

- Now holds 4 squads, allowing it to be filled completely during production

- Cultist Infiltration research can now be built in Chaos Armoury before HQ upgrades

- Now also increases squad's melee combat damage for duration. Stacks with Aspiring Champion abilities

- Re-implemented. Now built in Sacrifical Circle and can be deep-striked as before. Cannot be summoned by Chaos Sorcerer
- Speed increased by 2 to better match animation
Ork

- Use same Burna as 'Ard Boyz

- Dramatically increases Grot melee damage. Though still ineffectual, Grot vs Grot battles now become sudden death

- Speed increased to 18 and made more agile to reduce Kauyon pathing issues

- Crisis Suit
- No longer repairable, healing rate unchanged. They already heal faster than most infantry units

- AI
- AI logging disabled to reduce lag at match start
- Dawn of Skirmish AI 2.4 can now use Dark Reapers (fixed by Rossi720)
- Textures
- Optimised many CTC team-colourable (WTP) textures, by halving size or removing; removed textures use generic singleplayer textures (RSH) instead
- Produced singleplayer (RSH) textures and non–team-colourable (RTX) textures for all CTC units, fixing graphical glitches
Imperial Guard
