CAT-IKARI
I'd been GMing for my nieces and nephew for a few years yet hadn't convinced any of them to try GMing for their friends.
This bothered me; I didn't want role-playing games to be something that placated their uncle! I wanted them to embrace the hobby, share it with their friends and make new friends from the hobby.
The youngest of these youngsters was also the most interested in tabletop gaming, so I picked a franchise she and her friends loved—HarperCollins' Warrior Cats—and a one sheet pick-up-and-play game I loved—John Harper's Lasers & Feelings—and mashed them together with a dose of the sci-fi setting we'd created for our Chrome City Crime-Fighters campaign.
So began the adventures of Cat-Ikari. "Cat" is for cool, calm, calculating action. "Ikari" is for furious, wild, reckless action (it's actually a Japanese word).
Can this convince a 10-year-old to take up GMing? Only time will tell!
